Zero Emission Factories Developed in Japan

Recently I have been to Japan. I am very much impressed by this country in its contribution to Technology. I have never seen such a clean and techno savvy city as Tokyo in my Life. Japan is a blend of a very sophisticated culture and an advanced technology. After returning from Japan I have done lots of Research on Japan and I have lots of information gathered with me. Just wanted to share few of them with you.Source: http://web-japan.org/atlas/technology/techno_fr.html“Zero emissions” means eliminating waste completely by using the waste from one industry as a raw material in another. First put forth by the United Nations University in 1994, it is a concept that aims to reduce waste and byproducts from industry as a whole to an absolute minimum.

In November 1996, Asahi Breweries attained the goal of zero emissions at its plant in Ibaraki, which is very close to Tokyo. In November 1998, the company attained the zero-emissions goal at all of its plants. And this does not only mean that all industrial wastes produced at its plants are recycled, but that all types of waste, including ordinary items such as used fluorescent light bulbs and paper waste generated in offices, are recycled as well.

For years, Asahi had been making efforts to reuse industrial wastes, including using excess yeast in pharmaceuticals and foods-after processing it at pharmaceutical and food plants-and reprocessing cans. Through these efforts it had achieved an overall trash recycling rate of 98.5%. In order to attain the goal of zero emissions, it conducted studies to identify what plant wastes were not yet being recycled and then sought out a specialist to undertake the recycling of these wastes, by type of raw material, and contracted this work to them.When processing wastes it is important to sort the wastes by type of raw material. Unless the sorting work can be performed simply, it is a meaningless effort since sorting must be performed by all employees. Asahi attained the goal of zero emissions by making the sorting process as thoroughgoing as possible by having wastes collected by type.

Considerable attention has been focused on environmental problems in Japan ever since December 1997, when the Third Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP3) was held in Kyoto. In step with this, attention in Japan has come to focus on environmentally friendly zero-emission factories and now numerous factories and companies are working to achieve this goal.

Difference between GSM and CDMA

The GSM Association is an international organization founded in 1987, dedicated to providing, developing, and overseeing the worldwide wireless standard of GSM.

CDMA, a proprietary standard designed by Qualcomm in the United States, has been the dominant network standard for North America and parts of Asia.

However, GSM networks continue to make inroads in the United States, as CDMA networks make progress in other parts of the world. There are camps on both sides that firmly believe either GSM or CDMA architecture is superior to the other.There is no universal standard for cell phone technology so these acronyms represent various digital cellular technologies.

Every cell phone carrier in the U.S. and Canada use one of these 3 technologies, all of which provide a much better sound quality than analog phones but there are also differences between these systems. It’s important to note that TDMA service providers in the U.S. and Canada have switched their technology to GSM so we now have a choice between GSM and CDMA.

In the U.S., those popular service providers use the following technologies: · AT&T Wireless = GSM ·

Cingular = GSM ·

Sprint PCS = CDMA ·

T-Mobile = GSM ·

Verizon Wireless = CDMA

GSM’s high speed wireless data technology, GPRS, usually offers a slower data bandwith for wireless data connection than CDMA’s high speed technology: 1xRTTGSM companies, though, are currently working on implementing another new technology, EDGE, which will be faster than GPRS.

There are also other differences: some CDMA cell phones usually include analog capability (especially those from Verizon), so that the phone can be used to make calls when the user is not in a digital cellular service area. But GSM phones usually don’t offer that capacity.

In Europe, this is not a problem, as digital service is available mostly everywhere, but in North-America, this is an issue for those who need to travel occasionally to the country, where digital service is rarely available.

However, GSM phones carry other advantages over CDMA. For instance, triband or biband GSM phones (those that can operate on more than one frequency band) let you use your phone in Europe and the rest of the world while you can’t do this with a CDMA phone

Internet provides access to far more information than they can possibly process. Searching for the required information is a time consuming with no surety that you will find the exact result as web is not static. Keeping your results organized is really hard when you actually are researching something on the Web, Also time management is very important. After a rigorous search I found an easy to use Research Information Manager which captures and stores Web content with descriptive names. A very useful tool if you are certain that the information will be obsolete after a point in time and no longer required. Research Information manager enables you to select the specific Part of the web page you wish to keep. Advance Save allows you to store a page or its content temporarily and you can specify the time period or validity for how long to keep it. Collections are searchable, and you can sort search results by relevance, name, type, date, and flags,which are annotations created by you to represent priority, category, or any other type of descriptive information for items in a particular collection.
